Develop more self-discipline to increase sales productivity; it’s the road to freedom

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.”
— Jim Rohn, author and motivational speaker

Discipline gets a bad rap because it’s often thought of as abusive, something to fear. Abusive discipline (think beaten with a stick) and self-abusive discipline (vicious self-berating) are abusive and should be feared.
If you want to increase sales productivity, one of the most productive efforts you can make is to develop more self-discipline: doing what you commit to do, when you say you will do it. When you apply self-discipline, you can change your goals from fantasy to reality. Some salespeople, business leaders and athletes have exciting goals but not enough self-discipline — they don’t become high performers. Goals without developing self-discipline is a wish list.
Every top salesperson, Olympic athlete and elite entrepreneur I know has very high self-discipline. One former Olympic athlete turned real estate agent I’ll call Max was earning about $500,000 a year when he asked me to help him “…clean out anything in my mind that is blocking my success.”
He was so devoted to this that he committed to driving four hours to my office, work deeply for five hours and then driving home again. That’s 13 hours he committed to spend each time we worked together! This man had learned self-discipline and it allowed him to easily create great emotional and financial freedom and success.
Last time I heard from Max, he and his wife were on his motor cycle, going where ever the road took them. Living ecstatically, enjoying their freedom.
